The origins of the county relate to Manaus. The capital of the State enjoyed great prosperity in the last decade of the 19th Century, with the golden era of rubber. After that, Manaus experienced a period of stagnation and even retrogression. With the implementation of the Free Trade Zone and of the Industrial District, in 1967, the county’s economy reactivated, with the formation of various peripheral communities. Among these, Iranduba, which from 1982, separated from Manaus and turned into a new county. Iranduba holds the largest number of archeological sites recorded in Amazonas; the largest of them located in the community Serra Baixa, besides being the county with most forest hotels in the State.
