With the arrival of the Free Trade Zone of Manaus, in 1967, the peripheric area of the capital started to display higher economic and social capacity. By providing political expression to this emerging reality, the than Japanese colony of Rio Preto da Eva separated from Manaus, and with the contiguous territories of Itacoatiara and Silves, formed the county of Rio Preto da Eva. The name originated from the dark waters that bathe the county and flow into the Paraná of Eva. The existence of numerous public watering places with close to one hundred waterfalls, besides its proximity with Manaus, turned the county into the main leisure spot of natives of Manaus.
